Why is any discussion of morality restricted to the area of sexual morality? Murder is immoral… stealing is immoral… lying is immoral… taking God’s Name in vain is immoral… look at the Ten Commandments. The Creator of men also created within man a sense of fundamental morality and used the Ten Commandments as the “mirror” we can use to “see” the moral foundation encoded within each of us.
I can tell you from personal experience that abstinence works and it is worth the effort. While I’m getting personal let me tell you something about myself. I have always been a striking, handsome man… just ask my wife! Seriously, I was a good-looking kid in high school and college.
When I was age fifteen, I made a decision and a commitment to be sexually faithful to my wife for my ENTIRE life; before marriage AND after marriage. Through high school, college and in the early years of my work life, I had numerous opportunities with many beautiful young women to “play married” without a license or a commitment. It was very tempting, but I got rid of those women... and kept my commitment. REAL men defer pleasure in order to keep commitments.
Bottom line; my first sexual experience was with my wife… on our wedding night… and took place ten days after my fortieth birthday. Incidentally, my wife also saved her first sexual encounter for our wedding night. It was a rather nervous, slightly awkward and ultimately sweet evening.
Was it worth it? Of course… emphatically… with no regrets! One more thing; the commitment I made as a 15 year-old, red blooded American heterosexual, was a commitment to my future bride AND a commitment to God. This is key because I would not have had the power to maintain that commitment without HIS help.
