President Bush just awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously to Michael Monsoor. The President (a devout Christian) cried openly as the account of the heroic Navy Seal's falling on a grenade to save his comrades, was read. It was Michael Monsoor's final act of bravery as he died from his wounds thirty minutes later.
If an atheist were the President, would he have cried? I believe President Bush was overcome with emotion because of his abiding faith and the tremendous weight of accountability he has, before God, as Commander-in-Chief.
A true atheist would surely have sat emotionless through such a ceremony. What's the point of getting all emotional about the untimely death of a higher form of mammal? I appreciate and enjoy the intellect and prose of Christopher Hitchens. I know that he has expressed deep feelings for certain of the war-dead in Iraq with whom he had personal contact. So I know my characterization of atheists is not entirely accurate.
The fact is, most atheists are not God-deniers, they are God-haters. And their world-view disqualifies them to lead a Christian nation.
